The Spike Milligan Public Speaking Competition 2022
The CPsychI Spike Milligan Public Speaking Competition 2022
“Social Media and Digital Platforms: are they the cause of or solution to the nation’s mental health crisis”
After a three year-long hiatus, we are delighted to announce that the All Ireland ‘Spike Milligan Public Speaking Competition’ will return for 2022, live and in-person, on the 9th November in the Grand Hotel, Malahide.
Seven teams of two from each of the seven University medical school will discuss, dissect and debate the topic at hand – “Social Media and Digital Platforms: are they the cause of or solution to the nations mental health crisis” – and compete to take home the coveted Spike Milligan Trophy and prize money.
As always, this competition for senior medical students aims to promote the importance of communication skills and integrating mental health awareness in all fields of medical practice. The late, great Spike Milligan, a comedian, actor and writer, generously leant his name to the competition. The now annual event aims to continue his legacy of destigmatising mental illness with openness, wit and humour, and to honour his work as an advocate for others affected by mental ill health.
This event is open to all and completely free to attend. However, places are limited so please register in advance: book now on Eventbrite
We particularly encourage supporters from each of our 7 competing universities – NUIG, RSCI, TCD, UCC, UCD, UL and QUB – to join us in cheering on their representatives on the night.
We look forward to seeing you on what promise to be a night of lively discussion and thought-provoking discourse!
CPD: Approved for 2 External Credits by CPsychI
