Now in its fifth year, the College is delighted to launch its Hot Topics series for this academic year, continuing the opportunity for Psychiatrists to hear from speakers on a wide range of topical issues relevant to Psychiatry.
An evening format of Two Speakers, Two CPD Credits, One Thursday per month makes it easy for clinical professionals to maintain continuing professional development in an increasingly busy working environment.
The series kicked off on Thursday, 12th September with a session by Drs Michelle Clifford and Caroline Maher on Diagnostic Dilemmas and Comorbidities in Eating Disorders and will continue with dates in Dublin, Galway and Cork until April 2020.
Upcoming “hot topics” include Phenomenology: Revisited with Dr Brian O’Shea, Game On! Is Gaming a Lifestyle or a Disorder? with Dr Gerry McCarney and The Psychiatrist’s Experience in Treating Borderline Personality Disorder: Joys and Challenges with Dr Evelyn McCabe.
Director of Professional Competence, Dr Lorcan Martin says:
Exploration of emerging areas in Psychiatry, best practice and evidence-based approaches facilitates ongoing learning in a supportive peer environment. Feedback from Hot Topics attendees has been particularly helpful in guiding the direction of the series, and we’re delighted our members can continue to hear directly from their specialist colleagues on clinical subjects of interest.
Aiming to offer a diverse cross section of interest to all who attend, previous meetings have proven popular with Psychiatrists, doctors from other medical specialties, and a range of other healthcare professionals, creating a rich learning environment.
Topics in the 2019/20 series include: –
- GDPR for the Psychiatrist
- Phenomenology; Revisited
- Easing the Care Burden & Dealing with the family/carers in crisis
- Game on! Is gaming a lifestyle or a disorder?
- Gambling disorder – an update for clinical practice
