This clinical post is based within a community mental health service located in the Dublin North City Mental Health Service. The successful candidate will be based in Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. The Rehabilitation service provides interventions to patients with severe and enduring mental illness and progresses them to independent community living. The successful candidate will receive training from a consultant with expertise in this area and can engage in research and audit. Their on-call duty will be as part of an NCHD rota at Connolly Hospital, a busy general hospital with a 1:15 NCHD rota. They can participate in the weekly academic training. This post would be attractive for NCHDs thinking of pursuing a career in psychiatry as well as those in psychiatry training e.g. those who have not had training in severe Mental Illness (SMI) or forensics and are near completion of BST. The post offers training in the assessment and treatment of SMI and risk assessment. The post can offer flexible working hours. The successful candidate will work with Dr Mahon for 3 days per week and another consultant for 2 days. Dr Mahon is currently the Chief Examiner for the College and works in that non HSE role on those 2 days.
Required:
- 12 months post internship experience (preferably in psychiatry) would be desired.
- This is generally a 6 month post and is approved for BST training by the Irish College of Psychiatrists.
